Hiro's beer goggles

I accidentally broke the copper wire to have water to the fridge, so alas Hiro had to go under the house again. He couldn't find his ski goggles, so he had to wear his beer goggle's instead...

Finally! Floor space!

Ryan and Hiro did an awesome job last weekend unpacking a bunch of boxes in the living room. We have so much floor space now I'm not sure what we're going to do with it...

Wheelin' and dealin

There was a lot of great deals last weekend!! Bed Bath and Beyond had toilet covers for $5... which it's surprisingly hard to find extended-size seat covers for low-flow toilets.

The shower curtain was the steal of the day - $7 on clearance from Target! I'm loving Ryan's bathroom!

Naughty kitty

Tonight Mini was doing something she wasn't supposed to - but it was so odd that I sat and stared, tried to figure out how she got up there, took a picture, and then shooed her down. I can see how cats can get stuck in trees!

Kitchen is up and running!

Hiro and I cleaned the kitchen and actually cooked a whole meal! Two people can easily work at the same time.

The great water debacle

To sum up the last four days...

Day 1: Sprinkler valve broke, had to shut off the water.
Day 2: Water wouldn't turn back on.
Plumber showed up (under warranty) to fix the water, but tried to scam us into paying more, then left.
Day 3: New Plumber shows up and we finally have water (Hallelujah!) Then, another sprinkler valve broke.
Day 4: Plumber returns to fix the sprinkler. Another plumber comes to fix the sink (the original problem)

I think "replacing the pipes" has just been moved much higher in priority in the repairs we need to have done. That, and I've learned that PVC sprinkler systems are absolute $%^*!

Great place for birdwatching

Uh oh.

Apparently not only does the main shutoff not shut off all the way, it also doesn't turn back on. Whoops.

(Luckily Hiro still has the keys to his house, so we can shower over there til a plumber arrives. Thank goodness for our home warranty!)

No water.

Unfortunately, one of the side affects of having 50 year old pipes is that the main house water shut off valve doesn't shut all the way. I had a little sprinkler incident which involved having to shut off the water to replace a valve, except the pipe kept leaking... and leaking... and leaking. After a couple hours (and a few trips to Home Depot) we finally called a plumber. Luckily, being 8 pm on a Sunday night he didn't really want to come out, so he just explained how to shut off the main water pipe from the street.

In the meantime, we had invited our friends Frank and Jess over for a BBQ, which also turned into a PVC gluing extravaganza. The pipes are in place and hopefully in the morning our leaks will be no more!

Lazy Sunday

Loquat tree... sorta.

I've been itching to trim the trees so today I went for it. The loquat was turning into a jungle, so I trimmed off the lower stems and a lot of dead growth. Hopefully I didn't go a bit overboard...

(can you believe this is a tree?)

Getting settled

At one point the living room was starting to look organized. This is before we brought the last few carloads over from the apartment.

Laundry!

Doesn't quite fit right and we knocked out a small wall unnecessarily... but we have laundry. :)

The dreaded laundry pipe

Ryan and Hiro decided to install the new laundry pipe under the house, since the current one was a major fire hazard. It sounded like an easy enough project...

12 hours (and four trips to Home Depot) later

Finally moved!!!

We finally got all the furniture to the house! There's a few loads of stuff left at the apartment. It took about 12 hours to get all of our stuff, plus the furniture in storage (from our friends who just moved out east), and Hiro's stuff.

Second BBQ!

Second BBQ in two nights. Jesse, Tran and their pooches came over to hang out.

Mini comes out of the box

After spending 24 hours hiding inside the litter box, Mini decided to come out and play. She loves the new carpet.

Temporary kitty condo

We're getting a ways in our move - you can see the kitty condo we built in the bedroom til our furniture gets here. Tiggy has been venturing out a bit, as you can see. Bailey is doing alright but Mini is totally freaked - she's been hiding in the litter box.

Almost moving day!

Welcome to "Kitty City"! I (April) thought it'd be nice to post some stuff for family and friends to see what's going on with us - we got the keys to our place on Friday, and it's been pretty crazy since then.

I'll post some pictures to backlog the last few days - there's been a ton of little projects, moving, and of course, getting the cats over to the new place.
